30 Day Song Challenge - Day 30

Day 30 - Your favorite song at this time last year
Fury by Muse

Bit of a crap way to end, really. Not the song of course but the fact it's the exact same choice as my current favourite song! it's not my fault I've loved Fury for years, honest! To liven this up a bit at least for the final day I've included a fabulouso live performance of the song from before Absolution was even near being released, and probably one of the first instances of the song being performed. It's almost 10 years old now, christ! That's a little scary. But it was my favourite song this time last year and will continue to be so I imagine for a while so sorry about that. Nevertheless, enjoy young raw Muse performing this powerful choon.

That's it. For 30 days I've sat here typing out my little explanations and linking to the choices and it's actually been really fun. I hope you guys have enjoyed it too, and hopefully I'll crack on with a new 30 day challenge soon!

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 29

Day 29 - A song from your childhood
High by Lighthouse Family

A lot of my 90's music came from listening to cassettes of Now That's What I Call Music and their many numbers, they were filled with some classics and some embarresments but I always used to listen to the Lighthouse Family on them. Absolutely remember their music from my childhood and they were so relaxing, but I must admit they don't seem to have aged as songs at all. Listening to their songs again this evening has reminded me how chilled out their tracks were but I loved High as well as Lifted. Such positive, relaxed music. I wonder what happened to thea Lighthouse Family anyways? They were awesome.

Must admit that I was tempted to go for the Arthur the Aardvark theme tune for this one too...

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 28

Day 28 - A song that makes you feel guilty
Guilty by Rasmus

I'm so confused by this one. What songs make me feel guilty? I don't really get that feeling with music, there's nothing that creates that emotion of guilt when I listen to something so I'm just gonna go with Guilty by The Rasmus because it's a guilty song and ironically it's a bit of a guilty pleasure. I bet everyone has chosen this song for this day as the criteria MAKES NO SENSE. Quite liked the Rasmus back in the day though, they felt like a cheap Linkin Park from Scandanavia.

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 27

Day 27 - A song that you wish you could play
Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd

Although I've chosen Comfortably Numb as a song, the reason I went for the Live 8 performance was because of everything that makes me love Pink Floyd. This incredibly sound, this unique, genius creation of minds, this whole song being performed for one final time as a whole band and it just inspires me so much to want to be able to play Comfortably Numb. I mean, that final guitar solo man. The whole song is a myriad of wonderful feelings and just one of the best song's ever written, but that final solo is my favourite guitar solo of all time and I would kill to be able to play that. I can barely pluck a guitar string. The above video still sends shivers up my spine, and whilst it was incredible seeing the remaining alive members of the band on stage last week surprisingly, this video with Rick Wright still with us as he was in 2003 is just one of the greatest music videos I could possible share. Man, I wish I could play it even a miniscule near how good it is.

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 26

Day 26 - A song you can play on an instrument
Um...

....well, this is awkward. I can't think of one. Umm... bugger. The only instrument I've ever played is a clarinet and I can't remember anything I played on it so this is a bit of a cop out, what can I do if I don't play an instrument? if it helps, I really want to learn how to play piano more than any instrument. I'm thinking of bying a keyboard or something soon when I get more space in my room because it's an instrument I absolutely love hearing. Just something about classical pieces and rock music with pianos and prog music too. I just really love hearing piano based stuff so it's something I'd love to learn.

I do apologise though for not having anything today, I feel awful about it but I just don't know any song I play on an instrument. Sorry!

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 25

Day 25 - A song that makes you laugh
Stonehenge by Spinal Tap

It was the only right choice for this one, it just had to be Stonehenge. Not only is This is Spinal Tap one of the funniest movies you'll see but Stonehenge is just a classic song, as is that epic moment with the dwarves and mini Stonehenge. What else is there to say about why the song makes me laugh though? All you have to do is watch the film and you'll know why it's one of the best films ever. Stonehenge just truly turns the comedy levels up to 11.

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 24

Day 24 - A song that you want to play at your funeral
Pavane by Faure

I was playing with the idea of having a pop song or melody or whatever in here for this one but I dunno, it's a growing popularity with modern people now to have that kind of thing and I'm sure I'd have one at my funeral but if I had to choose one song I would make it this classic piece from Gabriel Faure. Honestly I don't really remember when I first heard it, back in the 90's at some point when I was growing up on TV but here I sit in 2011 and I still know it yet my knowledge of classical music is up there with my knowledge of food (basically, rubbish.). It's just an elegant piece of classical music and has just stuck with me throughout and it's my funeral choice because it's something different to go out on I suppose. I wouldn't want a soppy, depressing funeral but I'd still have this. If you're wondering the other choice I was playing with was Time of your Life by Green Day.

EDIT: Hah! Amazingly, thanks to Youtube I have recollected where I first heard Pavane and fell in love with it - the BBC world cup coverage in 1998. Brilliant!

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 23

Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding
Perfect Day by Lou Reed/Various

Now here's a subject, hah. If I had to choose a song to be played at my wedding I'd choose Perfect Day because it's all about spending the perfect day with someone perfect and it's just a nice song. As you can tell I am a totally soppy fool but it'd make a good newly married couple first dance but this would only be my choice of course. I've also gone for the BBC version from the 90's rather than the Lou Reed original which is a bit controversial but I just prefer it. It's a brilliant collaboration of artists doing an excellent song.

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 22

Day 22 - A song that you listen to when you’re sad
Way to Fall by Starsailor

Probably not the best song for a sad mood but it seems to fit well for the mood. Way to Fall is just the most stunning ballad that seems to have been overlooked when it was released but it gained ore popularity to gamers at least when it was the final ending theme to Metal Gear Solid 3 and absolutely set the mood perfectly. I think that's where I fell in love with the song but it's very much a sad mood listening song for it's tone and those connotations it has for me of that game ending and how sad it was. Laugh if you may but MGS3's ending did get me flooding up with tears and then, BAM, this hits. Damn you Kojima San. But it's a beautiful song I recommend to all from the vastly underrated Starsailor.

Lukeh's Space

I don't have anything else to say about myself for the profile. If it helps, I really do like sausage rolls. They're quite yummy.
